Crazy times here at my office. I’m sure you’ll all be happy to know I am hard at work on the next step of this adventure, which is taking the bulk of my time. Blogging may be sparse until after the book is turned in, in case you haven’t noticed that already.
I read somewhere, though I just can’t remember where, that writers who eventually get published have made significant sacrifices to pursue their craft. This often means getting up early or staying up late to find those precious moments of quiet for writing. It’s true; dedicating time to write is non-negotiable.
However, the sacrifice shouldn’t come at the cost of your health, particularly sleep. Despite being notoriously bad at managing my sleep schedule, I’ve learned the hard way that creativity thrives on rest. A sleep-deprived brain lacks the capacity for the kind of deep, creative thinking writing requires.
Here’s what I recommend to balance writing and wellness:
Limit Screen Time: Reallocate some of your TV watching or aimless internet browsing hours into writing. It's surprising how much time we can free up by simply turning off the TV or putting down our phones.
Schedule Your Social Media: Allocate specific times for social media, and stick to it. This not only helps in managing your time better but also reduces the mental clutter that can stifle creativity.
Develop a Writing Routine: Whether it’s early in the morning or late at night, find a time when you’re at your best and make it your designated writing time. Consistency helps in building a habit.
Healthy Habits: Don't overlook the importance of exercise, a healthy diet, and, yes, plenty of sleep. These contribute significantly to mental acuity and creativity.
So, what are you willing to adjust in your routine to make room for writing? Remember, it’s about finding balance and what works for you personally. Keep pushing forward, and don’t forget the value of a good night’s sleep.
Keep rocking and... well, make sure to catch some Z's.
